Agreement set to benefit farmers

THE Fiji Crop and Livestock Council (FCLC) has
strengthened its relationship with government after signing a memorandum
of understanding with the Ministry of Agriculture last week.
The council said the MOU had set guidelines of how it could work together for the benefit of the farmers.Agriculture permanent secretary Ropate Ligairi said FCLC collectively represented the vast number of farmers in Fiji (non-sugar sector) and would be helpful in bringing farmers' issues to the attention of government as well as promote the Ministry's agenda in developing the agriculture industry.
Mr Ligairi said one of the most important challenges was to see that FCLC attempted to register all of the farmers representing the different commodities or enterprises that were in Fiji.
FCLC chairman Simon Cole acknowledged the ministry for its assistance and their continuous support and also the FCLC funding agency, International Trade Centre (ITC) for their contribution in helping to develop the council.
